Today is Mother’s Day… we spent the day in the Springs with my parents. It was fun spending Mother’s Day with them – especially now that I am a mom… family time is just more special.
Other than spending the day with my family, two things made it a great Mother’s Day. Last night Ellie started blowing raspberries with so much fervor and so much slobber. It was hilarious and just made me so happy to be her mom! I already re-watched this video at least 4 times today!
Secondly, Ellie only woke up once last night! She ate right before I went to bed last night at 11:30 and didn’t wake up until 3am! After eating she went right back to sleep and didn’t wake up again until 6:45! Thank you Ellie for pampering you mom with some extra sleep on Mother’s Day!! Oh happy day!!
As I was thinking about what makes Mother’s Day special I just kept thinking about how every day with Ellie is just as special as the next. Yes, there are definitely moments where I’m worn out, spit-up-on, screamed at, exhausted, fighting flailing arms, tired and helpless (yes, I used three synonymous for the result of lack-of-sleep)… but in the midst of it all, I have this beautiful baby that is MY DAUGHTER. She is my blood. I know what is best for her. I get to take care of her daily. I get the joys and the pains of being Ellie’s mom… and I love it. Every. Single. Moment.
So while Mother’s Day is a nice day to celebrate being a mom and to celebrate my mom… I also think it’s a time to reevaluate our daily life and make sure we appreciate being a mom every day. Every day Ellie does something new, something that makes me laugh and probably something that makes me want to cry (sometimes happy, sometimes sad)… and every day is so different from the next. It’s a wonderful adventure… full of surprises, accomplishments and excitement!
I love being a mom. I’m so blessed to have a daughter who knows that I am her mommy. I’m so blessed to have a husband who is a partner with me to care for our daughter. I love watching Zach be a dad – it makes my heart happy. He is my best friend and I couldn’t imagine raising a baby without him right there beside me. I am so blessed to have a mom, who I now call almost every day just to share the joys (and sorrows) of being a mom. She is so encouraging to me and I’ve never needed more praise from my mom than I do right now in this season of my life. We are so blessed to have two sets of grandparents for our daughter, who love her so much and are willing to spend a day each week watching her so that I can go to work knowing my daughter is in the best care possible.
How blessed I am to be a mommy to our sweet Ellie!
Ellie, thank you for being such a sweet, happy baby – you make every day a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Mom, I love you so much – thanks for being there for me! I am so glad you are my mom!
