Getaway Weekend

Zach and I went to the mountains for a getaway weekend!

We got a great deal through for the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera and left Ellie at home with Zach’s folks. This was our second weekend away from Ellie (she stayed with my folks back in April for a church marriage retreat that we attended).

This was a weekend celebrating our 4th anniversary, my 30th birthday, making it through a year with Ellie and Zach’s new job! What great stuff to celebrate!!

We drove out of town on Friday morning – making a stop in Leadville to visit Provin Grounds Coffee and Bakery, our favorite coffee shop and Sawatch Backcountry, a great gear shop there. Then we drove over Independence pass and into Aspen. The trees were beautiful! We walked around the shops in Aspen and had lunch at The Red Onion (our recommendation for anyone wanting to grab a bit to eat in Aspen).

After some time in Aspen, we headed back towards Edwards, CO which is where our hotel was. Our hotel was tucked away in the mountain side. We checked in, walked around to explore the hotel a bit and then headed to dinner in town. We had dinner at Dish! It was a really trendy restaurant – we tried a 6-course chef’s tasting menu that we shared and also ordered a few other things – so it was like a 10-course meal! It was SO good!

Saturday morning we had a delicious breakfast at the hotel and then we had massages!! Something my sore back and shoulders needed from picking up Ellie all the time. It was wonderful! After another delicious meal in the hotel restaurant, we headed out to check out the shops in the towns of Edwards and Vail. It was the most beautiful weather we could have asked for!! We took lots of pictures while we walked around. We ate dinner in Edwards at Zino – seriously – the best Italian we’ve ever head!

We used the Spa’s steam room that evening – before snuggling into bed… it was wonderful! I had two nights of UNINTERRUPTED sleep!! It was fabulous! Before we headed home on Sunday, we had another delicious breakfast at the hotel – with an amazing view!

The weekend was so great for us! The weather was perfect and the trees were so gorgeous! I couldn’t stop “ohhhing” and “ahhhing” all weekend – it was just so much to take in!

If you ever want to get away to the mountains – go in the fall! It’s considered the “off-season” (I guess everyone is there in the winter and the summer)… so everyone has great deals – hotels & restaurants! It wasn’t crowded and we didn’t have to wait to eat in the restaurants. We had some of the best food that we have ever had – and the deals made it so much better! The Vail Valley was beautiful! We noticed on the drive home that around Breckenridge and Keystone the tress weren’t as pretty. So the other suggestion is that if you’re driving to the mountains to see the trees – you have to drive to the Vail Valley (or Aspen)!

The weekend was much needed and we just had so much fun together. We enjoyed being able to come and go as we wanted – no worrying about nap times… or eating quickly eat at a restaurant so as not to disturb the other patrons with our loud baby… BUT we missed Ellie terribly! We were ready to get home and see our sweet baby! In the couple of hours we got to spend with Ellie this afternoon, she took quite a few steps! It was so cool to see her trying so hard to walk!
