6 Months: A Letter

Eleanor Grace,

Today you are 6-months old! I can’t believe you have been in our lives for half of a year! You have made our little family so happy. The joy you have brought to our lives is more than I ever knew was possible. I love being your mommy!

You are such a curious little girl, you sit and observe everything going on around you and I wonder what’s going on in that brain of yours. I love to watch your face light up when you see things that you like. Your expressions are becoming more and more pronounced.

I love how daddy and I can make you giggle. You love to cuddle with us and grab at our faces. I love to watch you discover things with your hands and put everything in your mouth. You reach for things with such excitement! I love watching you try to talk, you make the cutest movements with your mouth.

I love playing with you on the floor… you have gotten so much more active and it’s just a blast playing with you. It’s getting harder to change your diaper and your clothes because you like to move around so much and grab your feet – but it’s just so cute so I laugh and try to change you as quickly as I can. You make me laugh every time you reach for your socks and get one sock off and immediately stick the sock in your mouth!

I love your smell! I give you a bath every night and rub lotion all over your cute little body. I love your chubby cheeks, your chubby wrists and chubby knees. You have the cutest little belly and the cutest little bottom! Your skin is so soft, I love kissing you all over!

You’re so sweet when you’re sleepy – you rub your eyes over and over. When I lay you in your crib, you’ll look up at me and then just roll over and go to sleep. I love coming into your room at night and you’re still on your side. Some nights, though you have a harder time going to sleep and you move around like crazy in your crib.

You definitely have a mind of your own – you will eat when you want and I can’t change that. You nurse every 3-4 hours during the day (sometimes in your stubbornness you’ll go longer than that) and every 2-3 hours at night. You’ve gotten better at eating from a bottle from your Grammy and Gigi – you even get excited when you see them warming the milk.

When you’re hungry in the middle of the night, you definitely let me know! Lately I have come into your room at night when you’re crying and you’ve rolled over onto your belly. It’s just the cutest thing. You nurse and then go right back to sleep – giving me an opportunity to get right back to sleep as well! In the morning though, you wake up and will lay in your crib and just hang out – playing and talking to yourself.

You go to sleep around 7pm and wake up between 6:30 and 7am. You take three naps a day, one nap is usually two hours long and the other two are a little shorter. You’re not very consistent with which nap is the longer one, so sometimes I get lucky and choose to take a nap during your longest nap… and sometimes I’m not so lucky!

You are such a happy baby! You can almost sit up completely by yourself. You still wobble a lot, but we work each day to help you get stronger. You haven’t decided that you want to eat solids yet – despite us trying once each week for the past few months. I think that once you can sit up on your own, you might be more interested in food. What an adventure that will be!

We haven’t had any throwing up episodes in almost a month! You have learned to clear your throat and any time you choke you recover with ease. You still take your baby Zantac, I think it really helps your belly. You still don’t have any teeth, but I swear they will pop out any day now! You have had a hard month because I know your gums are hurting really badly.

I love spending my days with you! Being your mommy is the best job I have ever had. This job is so rewarding and it is definitely my calling! I love caring for you, even though you can be a mystery sometimes, I love every moment! I can’t express the joy in my heart as I look back over the past 6 months! I can’t imagine our lives without you… and I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months will bring. What an adventure we’re on… and I love every second of it!!!

I love you Ellie!
